Sadly, we have to admit to not having won many awards, but there is a really good reason for this.
It’s not that we haven’t been good enough, but rather our principal designer, Rex G. Hirst, ckd au., has been busy judging for the Annual Kitchen & Bathroom awards for the HIA for the past 10 years or more and in this role, judges have been precluded from entering for fear of a perception of a conflict of interest.
As it happens, in 2006, the HIA decided in their wisdom to allow judges to enter so long as they stood out of the judging of the particular category they had entered. We entered that year and were fortunate to win the award for:
“2006, HIA Best Kitchen over $30,000”
There were a few negative remarks made after this, so the HIA again said: “No entries from Judges, anymore”.
Since then Rex has not entered any of his work, but in 2010, Markus Sawatzki, our young Canadian Interior Designer entered for the first time and won two awards:
“2010 KBDI Kitchen Designer of the Year VIC.”
“2010 Winner KBDI Large Kitchen VIC.”
Competing against a strong field, Markus Sawatzki was excited to take out the award for KBDI Kitchen Designer of the Year VIC 2010 and Winner KBDI Large Kitchens VIC 2010 at the prestigious KBDi Kitchen and Bathroom Designer Awards held on Saturday 15 August.
At the end of the day, the best awards one can point to are the awards that are shown on our testimonial page from our harshest judges, our clients, who chose to trust us with their most expensive asset, their home.
They are our awards.
